For those of you who do not live in South-Western Ontario, you likely haven’t heard the news: Alma College is no more. Years of fighting for heritage status was finally starting to show fruition, but a suspicious fire, now classified as arson, has dashed any hopes that it had. The remains of the building were deemed unsafe for the fire marshals to work their investigation, so a wrecking ball took down the rest.
The Legacy lives on. For more insight into the school, be sure to check out Will’s story.

What an absolute shame. Because I live down the street from the building I’ve seen much of the demo first hand. It surely will change the streetscape in it’s absence.
St. Thomas has surely lost a true treasure.

That picture makes me extremely upset. It’s really unfortunate that this had to happen now [well, at all, really], and I hope it doesn’t make my gentle myth-making about the fine institution seem crass, but whatever I can do to keep it alive in peoples’ minds I’ll do.
Thanks for posting this, too, by the way.

What a loss. I think the comic is a fine way to try and preserve some of the legacy.

This is heartbreaking and I only know very little about Alma. I can’t believe it. What a terrible demise.

No way does this make your story crass, Will. Your comic is one way the institution will stay alive at least in hearts and minds. I also found it ironic that I read in the paper this morning that hurricane or typhoon ALMA hit or was about to hit Mexico this morning from the Pacific! Guess that makes it a typhoon. Anyways, a sad day.
