Gustav Hayes…. Back in black!

Posted by robert under Beta Books, Gustav Hayes |

Hey all,

As mentioned last week, we have moved to a new artist, John Daniel Bradford, on the Gustav Hayes beta book.

John Daniel Bradford’s work can be found on the Z2H galleries. I am happily impressed with Bradford’s work, speed and communication which have all been top notch. We are moving along very well!

Here is the new pin-up of Gustav Hayes…

Also I had mentioned showing more of the steps to development in a comment recently on Josh’s post. So here is a shot of the Page X script and inks (Bradford works straight to inks) so anyone who is familiar with the magazine Write Now will notice how this is laid out…

Now we are working on getting page X colored and lettered. Once those are done, I will post them up so everyone can see all the steps to the process.

  • No offense to the previous artist, but I like this stuff a lot better. It really pops.

What do I mean? …more comic booky - less animationey.

The new stuff is more Kirby, Mignola; and less …Warner Bros? Disney?

See what I mean? WB and Disney still make good stuff, but it’s not comic books.

  • Exactly what my wife said “more comic booky!” :P

Although I do really like Mauro’s work, I think Bradford’s work is visually stunning.

  • Thank-you, that is more in line with what I was looking for. Very impressive artwork and it is good to see how an artist translates the directions given by the writer. Also I’m doubly impressed that John works without a penciler. Fetternity wrote a long blog and answer session about inking and it shows this man has talent. And cojones!

  • His cajones are frighteningly large–seriously. Bradford clearly has a firm grasp on technique, given his methods. The work he’s been submitting is great–I’m not one to spew hyperbole either–it’s just damned awesome work!!

Thanks for the feedback folks. I too am excited to see more pages.

    Gustav will be great!
